Independence Day 'tea parties' insult America, its people

I guess people in this country really are pathetic enough to protest on a day where all Americans should have been coming together to celebrate our independence. Specifically, South Carolina takes the cake.

U.S. Senator Jim DeMint of S.C. attended a "tea party" that was more of an insult to our president and the country itself than a show of appreciation and thoughtfulness . He spoke in front of more than 800 people at Cannon Park in downtown Charleston. He ran down the president's attempt to save a economy that was merely destroyed by the party he aligns with. He called Obama's principles on the economy and his efforts to get this country moving again "socialism."

But that wasn't all...

In the print version published in Charleston's Post and Courier, he's pictured standing behind a podium with a poster of his book cover on the front, opposite a protester with a sign that's anti-Obama. Pen and grin, DeMint enjoyed being amongst Obama haters.

It's insulting to America and all its people to have a U.S. senator engage in these anti-government, anti-president and anti-American rallies. For example, this guy talks about "saving freedom" with his book, but is against the freedom of workers to choose a union, the freedom of a woman to choose for herself and the freedom of gays to marry who they love, teach in public schools and adopt children.

It is this type of nonsense that keeps this country, this region and this state in a downward spiral.
